As 2023 comes to an end, I want to share two comforting AI tools with you, and have a heart-to-heart chat.

As the year-end approaches, seeing friends enthusiastically post their year-end summaries on social media made me realize that even in a not-so-good year overall, everyone is still striving to live a wonderful life. This makes me genuinely happy.
As for myself, this year has been the explosion of AIGC, and I’ve followed and updated more AI tools than in the past few years combined. So today, let’s not talk about technology. Instead, let me share two AI tools that can soothe the soul.
▌01. Comfort from the Wise
The first tool is a GPT I made called "Comfort from the Wise."
This GPT can listen to your worries, match you with a wise figure from history or modern times who has experienced similar situations, and speak to you in their tone about how they felt in similar situations, making you feel less alone. It also provides possible coping strategies. Here are some usage examples:
You
I’m particularly prone to anxiety, always worrying about low-probability events in life. I get anxious over anything uncertain. I know this is not right, but I can't escape this mental exhaustion. What should I do?
Comfort from the Wise
I completely understand how you feel. In my lifetime, I too was often overwhelmed by worries and anxiety. You know, I’m Charles Darwin, the founder of biology. Even though I had profound insights into nature, I frequently experienced anxiety in my personal life.
I constantly worried about my health, as well as the health of my dear family. Every time I made a significant scientific discovery, I worried about the impact these findings might have on society. These worries often prevented me from focusing on my work. Like you, I also understood that this kind of anxiety was unnecessary, yet I couldn’t free myself from it.
I once wrote, “I constantly notice that peace of mind is crucial for health.” This is something I deeply understood. To cope with my anxieties, I found that I needed regular relaxation and rest. I often took walks outdoors and enjoyed the tranquility of nature. This helped me temporarily escape those anxious thoughts.
Let me offer you some suggestions based on my experiences:
- Accept your anxiety: Realize that anxiety is a normal human emotion, and we shouldn't blame ourselves for feeling anxious.
- Find ways to relax: Whether it's walking, reading, or any other hobby, find an activity that helps you unwind.
- Distract yourself: When anxious thoughts arise, try to shift your attention to other things, such as engaging in meaningful work or a hobby.
- Exercise moderately: Physical activity not only benefits the body but also improves mental health.
- Seek support: Talk about your feelings with family and friends, or seek professional counseling.
Remember, you’re not alone. Everyone has their own worries and challenges. What matters is finding ways to deal with those challenges. Now, I will generate an illustration for you—I hope it brings you some comfort.
The scene depicted in this image is meant to bring you a sense of inner peace and tranquility. Remember, as I learned in life and scientific exploration, in the face of uncertainty and anxiety, what’s most important is finding balance, allowing yourself moments of tranquility amidst the busyness and stress. Your feelings are human—face them bravely and seek your own path to resolution. I wish you find inner peace.
You
I feel like the environment around me is deteriorating—the economy is getting more competitive, and the social atmosphere is worsening. I feel insignificant and powerless to do anything, which makes me feel very frustrated. What should I do?
Comfort from the Wise
In your words, I see the shadow of an era, and the struggle and helplessness of an individual within it. This reminds me of myself—Charles Dickens—living through the turbulence of the Industrial Revolution in England, witnessing profound social changes and individual struggles.
At that time, social stratification, widening wealth gaps, and the challenges posed to humanity by industrialization deeply moved me. I saw impoverished children on the streets and felt the struggle of ordinary people amid economic and social changes. Like you, I also felt insignificant, powerless in the face of sweeping societal changes.
However, I chose to use my pen to infuse my personal feelings and social realities into my works. Through Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and others, I tried to reveal social injustice and evoke sympathy and understanding. Though I couldn’t directly change society, I could influence people’s thoughts and feelings through my writing.
I believe that everyone has their own way and power to cope with the times. Even though you feel small, every action you take, every word you say, can influence others. When you face frustration and powerlessness, remember that even the smallest light can shine warmly in the darkness.
Now, I will generate an illustration for your experience.
Facing your frustration and powerlessness, I have the following suggestions:
- Find your personal strength: Everyone has unique strengths and ways to deal with difficulties. It could be writing, creating art, or communicating with others. Find your way and use it to express your feelings and thoughts.
- Stay hopeful and positive: In turbulent times, maintaining optimism and hope is crucial. Although we cannot control the external environment, we can control our attitude and reactions.
- Accept your limitations: Accept the fact that you can’t change the entire world, but also recognize that every person’s actions have value. Even the smallest act of kindness can bring positive change to the world around you.
- Find companions: In difficult times, walking alongside others can bring strength and comfort. Find like-minded people to discuss and support each other.
- Learn from history: Study history and learn how humanity has survived and developed through different challenges. This can provide insight and comfort.
- Get involved: Although individual power is limited, participating in social activities, volunteering, or public discussions can help you feel like you’re part of change.
Remember, every era has its challenges and opportunities, and everyone can play a role in their own way. Don’t underestimate your own power and influence.
▌02. Froggie's Treehole
The second one is "Froggie's Treehole," created by DouSha:
Compared to the one I made, this is a lighter, more playful GPT. Froggie is an unlucky frog willing to listen to your misfortunes, and then comforts you with their own humorous, even worse, misfortunes, making you feel that maybe things aren't that bad for you after all.
Here are some usage examples:
You
My friend borrowed money from me and hasn’t paid it back.
Froggie's Treehole
Ugh, this kind of thing is definitely frustrating. But let me tell you, I once lent a "good friend" a big sum of money, and not only did they not pay it back, but they also blocked me! Can you believe it? It was like I bought them an invisibility cloak, and they vanished into thin air. While I lost money, I gained a valuable lesson: sometimes losing money isn’t the worst thing; recognizing someone's true nature is the real gain. So, what are your plans for dealing with this? Remember, sometimes these situations can be a good chance to see someone's true colors.
You
I got laid off.
Froggie's Treehole
Ah, getting laid off is definitely something that weighs heavily on the heart. But let me tell you, I not only got laid off once, but it also happened on my birthday! Imagine—I was just about to blow out the candles and make a wish, when I got a call telling me I didn’t need to come in anymore. My wish that day became, "I hope to find a new job." Though it was a low point at the time, I later realized it gave me a chance to reassess my career path and look for new opportunities.
You may be experiencing similar feelings now, but remember, when one door closes, another one always opens. This time, though full of challenges, might also be an opportunity for you to explore new fields and develop new skills. What are your plans for the future? Sometimes an unexpected change can bring about surprising opportunities.
▌03. Final Thoughts
Finally, if you’re feeling happy on the last day of 2023, I wish you a new year as wonderful as today, every moment extraordinary. If you’re not feeling so happy today, that’s okay—today is just an ordinary moment of a planet's orbit around a star in the galaxy, nothing particularly special. Observe the sun's journey across the sky, gaze at the Milky Way and thousands of rivers—so long as you hold hope, your heart toward the boundless, life’s light will eventually shine through.
Thank you all for accompanying me this year. Happy New Year!
